In yet another example of the high-handedness of politicians, Kerala MLA K.B. Ganesh Kumar and his driver allegedly assaulted a youth near Anchal in Kollam on Wednesday for not making way for his car to overtake.

Ananthakrishnan, 22, was hospitalised as he suffered injuries in the attack. He was reportedly assaulted by Ganesh Kumar in front of his mother.

Ganesh Kumar was proceeding in his car to a house where a death had occurred. Ananthakrishnan and his mother were returning from the same house. Ganesh Kumar, who was enraged as his vehicle could not overtake, got off his car and assaulted the youth. Soon, his driver also joined the attack.

Ananthakrishnan was rushed to the government hospital at Anchal and later shifted to a private hospital.

Ganesh Kumar had been a movie actor for several years before entering politics. A former minister in the UDF government, Ganesh Kumar had retained his Pathanapuram legislative assembly seat with the support of the LDF in the 2016 election. The actor-turned-politician is the son of former minister and Kerala Congress (B) chief R. Balakrishna Pillai.
