Sushma Swaraj's constituency has lowest sex-ratio in India

The State Health Bulletin released by Madhya Pradesh unit of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has revealed that Vidisha district has the worst female sex-ratio in the country with just 782 girls against per 1000 male child born, when the national sex ratio, as per Census 2011, is 942.

Vidisha, just 55 kilometers from Bhopal, is represented by Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in Lok Sabha and it also happens to be the home town of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The health bulletin of April-Dec 2017-18 pointed out that out of total 20085 new births 11274 where males while 8811 were females in Vidisha. This made the district as one of the worst in state with just 782 per thousand against state’s average of 926.

Even the two districts of Chambal – Morena and Bhind – which are infamous for female foeticide registered a healthy 900 and 916 respectively. In the data released the district of Sehore registered 992 birth of female against 1000 males followed by Satna, Balaghat, Sidhi, Singrauli and Indore.

The NITI Aayog had previously expressed concern over the falling sex-ratio in Madhya Pradesh. The state also has one of the worst female foeticides as per the statistics of Union Health Ministry.

“The appalling sex-ratio in the VIP constituency is a matter of grave concern,” said Sachin Kumar Jain of Right to Food campaign.
