Sugary foods might be the top choice for many, but they are also a huge concern for your health. Especially when sugar is being consumed in excessive amounts, it can lead to a range of health issues.

Excess sugar intake is also strongly linked to the development of Type 2 Diabetes, as it can cause spikes in blood sugar levels and reduce the body’s ability to use insulin effectively. Along with this, it also affects heart health as well as dental issues.

However, have you ever given it a thought as to how much weight can be reduced by just quitting one aspect, sugary foods?

Hyderabad-based neurologist, Dr Sudhir Kumar, made an interesting observation by considering a 40-year-old man who is overweight by ~20 kg and he does not change his exercise.

Instead, he decides to remove the following from his diet:

• Sugar in tea/coffee

• Daily cola/soft drink

• Packaged fruit juices

• Sweets/ice cream several times a week

By removing the mentioned food items from the diet, the person is expected to lose around 1.5 kg per month without even changing the workout regime, as per Dr Kumar.

"Liquid calories do not create fullness, are consumed quickly and are easy to overconsume. That is why they are strongly linked to weight gain, diabetes, and fatty liver disease," mentioned Dr Kumar on X (formerly Twitter).

Reducing added sugar, choosing whole foods, and reading nutrition labels carefully can help protect long-term health and maintain balanced energy levels.

However, the math does not imply the same for everyone. Please consult a physician and a nutritionist for an individual diet plan.
