Many of us have turned to ChatGPT for answers to those symptoms or signs of illness. Now, OpenAI has launched a ChatGPT Health tab that answers health-related questions.

Users can now upload medical records and connect wellness apps such as Apple Health and MyFitnessPal. The newly added feature expands the capabilities of ChatGPT to provide a dedicated space for users to gather health information.

Apps will be connected to the individual's health data only with permission, even if they’re already connected to ChatGPT for conversations outside of Health.

In a report released by OpenAI,  over 5 per cent of all ChatGPT messages globally are about healthcare, translating into billions of health-related interactions every week. More strikingly, one in four weekly active users worldwide prompts ChatGPT about healthcare at least once a week, while over 40 million users seek healthcare-related information on the platform every single day.

Significance of the new tab:

Tasks such as understanding recent test results, preparing for doctor appointments, getting diet advice and workout routines, or evaluating tradeoffs between different insurance options based on individual healthcare patterns can be done through the new tab.

"To keep your health information protected and secure (ChatGPT) Health operates as a separate space with enhance privacy to protect sensitive data. Conversations in Health are not used to train our foundation models," OpenAI said.

As per Reuters, OpenAI plans to expand access and make ChatGPT Health available to all users on the web and iOS in the coming weeks. It initially provides access to a small group of early users with ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside of the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom to test the experience.
