The absconding Dr. Anushka Tiwari, the prime accused in the deaths of two engineers that received hair transplants in Kanpur, surrendered on Monday at a local court, and has been sent to jail.
Two engineers, Vinit Kumar Dubey and Pramod Katiyar, allegedly died within 48 hours of receiving the hair transplant at her private clinic in Kanpur, named Empire.
Although Dubey's wife Jaya Tripathi filed a complaint with the police on May 9, there were delays in action being taken, she claimed, which forced her to go to the Chief Minister's Grievance Cell. A complaint was ultimately filed on May 9.
In her complaint, she said that Dubey, 40, had a badly swollen face and suffered pain before his death on March 14, a day after undergoing a hair transplant at Dr Tiwari's clinic, Additional DCP West Vijendra Dwivedi said, as per a PTI report.
"There are serious allegations against Anushka Tiwari. Anushka Tiwari has performed surgery, which is not related to her field. We have sufficient evidence in this regard. A case has been registered in Kakadev police station. Prima facie Anushka Tiwari is guilty. Today Dr. Anushka Tiwari has surrendered in court. After her surrender, she has been sent to jail," Dilip Singh, a government lawyer explained, as per an NDTV report.
The surgery took place on March 13 and her husband died two days later at another hospital, the victim's wife said, adding that Dr Tiwari had been missing since March 15.
Tripathi claimed that she even had a call record of Dr Tiwari admitting to performing the surgey without a test.
The report added that a preliminary investigation was being conducted, with scientific evidence being collected, a senior police officer said.
