The most anticipated Hindi release of the year surpassed Adipurush in Hindi opening-day collections but remained behind the Prabhas starrer in overall India net, Sacnilk said. The epic-mythology movie has become the third-biggest Bollywood opening behind Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge and Drishyam 3: The Conclusion.

Among pre-Diwali Bollywood releases, Ramayana recorded the highest Day 1 Hindi net collection of ₹47.50 crore. Tiger 3 (2023) collected ₹43 crore, followed by Krrish 3 (2013) with ₹24 crore. Housefull 4 (2019) earned ₹19.08 crore, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) collected ₹13.25 crore, and Shivaay (2016) earned ₹10.24 crore, Sacnilk's databank showed.

Among the best openers, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge ranks first with a Day 1 Hindi net collection of ₹99.10 crore, followed by Drishyam 3: The Conclusion with ₹62 crore. Behind Ramayana's ₹47.50 crore stands Border 2, which collected ₹30 crore. Mirzapur: The Movie ranks fifth with ₹25.50 crore.

Ramayana arrived in theatres across the country on Thursday, drawing largely positive reactions from moviegoers who praised its visual spectacle and performances, particularly those of Ranbir Kapoor and Yash. "Ramayana has crossed the ₹100 crore worldwide milestone on its opening day, registering ₹127.50 crore gross, comprising ₹77.50 crore from India and an estimated ₹50 crore from overseas markets," Sacnilk said.

The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is the first instalment of a two-part cinematic adaptation of the ancient epic. It features Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.
