Netflix is gearing up for the premiere of "Under Siege" (Palacio), a new Colombian historical docudrama, on November 6, 2026. The eight-part limited series explores one of the darkest chapters in Colombia’s modern history: the 1985 Palace of Justice siege in Bogotá.
Combining historical events with personal stories, the series examines not only the violence of the attack but also its lasting impact on the families of those who disappeared.
“Under Siege” is produced by Dynamo, the Colombian production company behind the most celebrated "Narcos" and "One Hundred Years of Solitude", among others.
The story begins on November 6, 1985, when members of the 19th of April Movement (M-19), a guerrilla group, stormed the Palace of Justice and took more than 300 people hostage, including Supreme Court judges. The Colombian military responded with a major counter-operation that continued for around 28 hours. The siege ended with more than 90 people dead or missing, leaving deep wounds across Colombian society.
However, "Under Siege" reportedly goes beyond the events inside the courthouse: a major part of the series follows the families of the victims over the next two decades as they search for answers about their missing loved ones. Their long struggle for truth and justice forms the emotional core of the story.
The series brings together a notable Colombian cast, including Natalia Reyes, Carlos Manuel Vesga, Robinson Díaz, Luna Baxter, Mariana Gómez, Santiago Alarcón, Nicole Santamaría and Juan Esteban Quintero.
Natalia Santa, who wrote the Netflix adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez's "One Hundred Years of Solitude", leads the project as showrunner and is involved in the writing, alongside Enrique Videla, Enrique Lozano, Jenny Ceballos and Estefanía Piñeres. The directing team includes Jayro Bustamante (known for "La Llorona"), Edgar Nito and Samir Oliveros.
With such a promising team involved behind the scenes, "Under Siege" is expected to be one of Netflix's major Spanish-language productions of 2026. Industry reports describe it as the platform's second-most ambitious series in Colombia since "One Hundred Years of Solitude".
Although comparisons with "Narcos" are already emerging, "Under Siege" reportedly follows a different storytelling approach. Unlike the Wagner Moura-led series, which focused on the drug trade, cartels, and law enforcement officials, "Under Siege" explores political violence, loss and the long search for justice.
By bringing this painful chapter of Colombian history to a global audience, the series aims to remind viewers that the consequences of a national tragedy can last for generations.
