The film, which was released in theatres on September 4, 2026, enjoyed a successful box office run before preparing for its expected arrival on the streaming platform.
The film is part of the popular "Mirzapur" franchise and brings its familiar characters to the big screen. Unlike a direct continuation of Season 3, the movie is an interquel, set between events of the first season in 2018. It features the return of Munna Bhaiya, played by Divyenndu, alongside Kaleen Bhaiya, portrayed by Pankaj Tripathi, and Guddu Pandit, played by Ali Fazal.
"Mirzapur: The Movie" was a significant box office hit with an impressive theatrical run. It reportedly earned ₹28.11 crore on its opening day in India. Its total worldwide gross collection reached ₹336.83 crore, making it one of the notable box office performers of 2026.
According to the reported figures, the film collected ₹233.73 crore in India net earnings and ₹275.83 crore in India gross earnings. Its overseas gross collection stood at ₹61 crore. The film also reportedly delivered a return on investment of more than 159%, highlighting its commercial appeal.
As far as the reviews are concerned, the film received a mixed-to-positive response, with much of its appeal coming from familiar characters, powerful performances, sharp dialogues and dark humour. Long-time fans enjoyed seeing the Mirzapur universe on a larger screen, particularly its action-packed moments and dramatic confrontations.
Pankaj Tripathi received praise for his controlled yet commanding portrayal of Kaleen Bhaiya, while Ali Fazal impressed audiences with Guddu Pandit's intense anger and aggression. Ravi Kishan also stood out as Babban Yadav, a drug lord from Jaisalmer whose unpredictable behaviour added tension to the story.
However, the film's lengthy runtime of three hours and 17 minutes attracted criticism. Some reviewers felt that cutting 30 to 40 minutes would have improved its pace. Others noted that the story lost momentum during the desert sequences in Jaisalmer, remarking that certain subplots also felt unnecessarily stretched. The casting change involving Jitendra Kumar as Bablu also required adjustment for some viewers.
