Marvel Studios has confirmed that "Daredevil: Born Again" will end with its third season, bringing the story of Matt Murdock to a close. The final season will consist of eight episodes and is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in March 2027.

The announcement was made during Marvel’s panel at New York Comic Con on October 8, 2026. The news disappointed many fans, who responded with loud boos. Actor Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil, jokingly suggested that fans might launch another “Save Daredevil” campaign to keep the character’s story alive.

Despite the disappointment, Season 3 promises to be a major event for fans of Marvel’s street-level heroes.

The Defenders reunite for the final season

The upcoming season will bring several familiar faces back together. Joining Cox at the Comic-Con panel were Krysten Ritter, who plays Jessica Jones, and Finn Jones, who plays Iron Fist. Mike Colter is also confirmed to return as Luke Cage.

This reunion confirms the team-up of the main Defenders again.

The story will follow the dramatic Season 2 finale. Matt Murdock will begin the new season in prison for crimes committed as Daredevil, while Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, will be in exile. Footage shown at the event also offered a first look at Wilson Bethel as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, wearing a costume closely based on Bullseye’s comic-book appearance.

However, the show has also experienced changes behind the scenes. Showrunner Dario Scardapane reportedly parted ways with Marvel in September 2026 after they did not renew his contract during post-production.

Why Marvel is ending the series

The main reasons behind the decision reportedly involve falling viewership and high production costs.

Although the first season attracted attention, reports suggest that audience interest declined afterwards. At the same time, the series required a large budget for its action scenes, visual effects and detailed urban settings.

Marvel reportedly decided a fourth season would not be financially worthwhile. The departure of Scardapane has also raised questions about the show's future direction.

Rather than continuing the series without a clear plan, Marvel appears to be using Season 3 to deliver a complete ending.

While the news may disappoint loyal viewers, the return of the Defenders offers an opportunity for a memorable conclusion. With Matt Murdock’s future uncertain and several major characters returning, the final season could give the series a fitting send-off.
