Supermodel Cindy Crawford’s son, Presley Gerber, 27, who struggled with drug addiction, died at a rehab facility in Los Angeles on Sunday. The exact cause of death has not been disclosed.

CNN reported that Cindy Crawford’s publicist confirmed Gerber’s death and asked that people respect the family’s privacy “during this very difficult and painful time”.

Presley was born in California to Cindy Crawford and American businessman Rander Gerber. Following in the footsteps of his mother, he and his sister, Kaia Gerber, entered the modelling industry at a young age. He signed up with IMG Models at 15 and made his runway debut at the age of 16 for Italian luxury brand Moschino.

Later, he worked with multiple high-end brands, including the British label Burberry and Italian brands Dolce & Gabbana and Bottega Veneta. He also worked with American labels including Tommy Hilgigher and Ralph Lauren. He has been featured in campaigns for Calvin Klein, Celine, Pepsi and Omera. The New York Times Style Magazine and GQ Style.

Aside from his modelling career, DNA Model, which has represented Presley since 2019, mentioned his work as an investor and entrepreneur. At the age of 19, Presley was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs after he was found speeding in Beverly Hills, California. He was sentenced to three years of probation, community service and a DUI programme.

In 2024, Presley revealed that he had battled a severe, years-long opiate addiction. He was a mental-health advocate and ran his own “Mental Health Mondays” initiative on Instagram. He has also worked with NGOs including the LA homelessness charity and A Sense of Home.

He had a near-fatal fentanyl overdose that left him in a coma for a few days. He was later admitted to rehab to undergo treatment with the psychedelic ibogaine.

In December, Presley shared a video on Instagram in which he spoke about his struggle with psychiatric medication. He mentioned using antidepressants and Xanax for panic attacks. The same month, he confirmed sobriety from alcohol.

One of his recent Instagram posts, on March 26, is a video that shows him preparing for a treatment session with the psychedelic drug Ibogaine.

“Pre Ibogaine Flood Dose - quiet moment before everything changed. I was absolutely terrified, and I knew I would be again if I ever had to face something like this. Letting go of control didn’t come easy, but I trusted there's something bigger than me guiding it. I knew why I was there. I faced what I had been running from, and somewhere in all of it, I started finding my way back to myself. We shall see. Praying it’s the last time I have to come back. Next time, I’d like to choose,” the caption read.

His mother, Cindy, commented under the post, “You are a warrior! Walked through the fire to find yourself! So proud!”

Last month, his sister, Kaia, talked about her brother’s battle with substance abuse.
