Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi has confirmed that the sequel to his 2024 revenge drama Maharaja is happening. The actor said he was impressed by the plot that director Nithilan Saminathan shared with him.
“Nithilan is an excellent director; his writing sense is so good. He recently told me the story of Maharaja 2, which was so beautiful. Initially, some people did not believe in Maharaja, but I always did. However, I didn’t expect this.”
While speaking at the audio launch of his upcoming film Baththa, Sethupathi also spoke about the rumours surrounding Maharaja going international with a Hollywood remake. The Kollywood icon said he was open to working on the project sans a salary, given the opportunity.
"He recently called me and told me that he has sold the Hollywood rights of the film. I told him, 'I'll act in one movie for free. Get me a role in that Hollywood remake. I'll go to Hollywood!'" Vijay Sethupathi was quoted as saying by entertainment portals.
"It gives me such great surprise and happiness. I've always had a big interest in working in Hollywood, but more than anything, I'm extremely happy that my movie is going to Hollywood," he added.
Maharaja was a roaring success in the People's Republic of China, where it reportedly collected over ₹90 crore. More praise came Nithilan and Sethupathi's way following its OTT release, which took it to viewers across the country.
