His recent papal thriller Conclave seems to have helped him grab the top job as director in the movie that stars Pitt as the relentless former UN investigator Gerry Lane.
In World War Z, Lane had raced across the globe to stop a fast-spreading pandemic that brought humanity to its knees.
This is also not Pitt’s first outing with Berge, with the duo recently wrapping up The Riders, the upcoming psychological thriller based on Tim Winton’s novel.
The World War Z sequel, set to be co-produced by Pitt with Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner under his Plan B Entertainment banner, has also roped in Utopia-fame British screenwriter Dennis Kelly for the script.
