After years of uncertainty, "National Treasure 3" is finally becoming a reality. Director Jon Turteltaub confirmed that the long-awaited sequel is in development during a live appearance at National Treasure Weekend in Philadelphia. He described the project as “finally real,” giving fans new hope that Benjamin Franklin Gates will return to the big screen.

Turteltaub confirmed that a new script has already been completed and approved by both him and Disney. He also said that, “to whatever extent we can, everyone’s back,” suggesting that much of the original cast could return. That includes Nicolas Cage, who is expected to reprise his popular role as treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates.

However, the movie is not yet ready to begin filming. Turteltaub described the project as “Hollywood real,” meaning it has the studio’s support and is actively moving forward, but still has several industry steps to clear. There is currently no confirmed release date or production schedule.

The long delay has been one of the biggest questions surrounding the franchise. The last film, "National Treasure: Book of Secrets", was released in 2007. Turteltaub explained that the changing political climate has been one factor. He said the new movie will cleverly reflect how much American culture has changed over the past two decades.

Cage also has a busy future ahead. He is returning to the recording booth as Spider-Noir in "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse", the final film in the animated trilogy. He has also completed filming on "Lords of War", a sequel to his 2005 crime film "Lord of War". Cage will once again play arms dealer Yuri Orlov, who now faces his own illegitimate son, played by Bill Skarsgård.

Another major project is "Madden", in which Cage will portray legendary NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden. Directed by David O. Russell, the biographical drama adds another unusual and high-profile role to Cage’s already packed schedule.
