"Sicario 3" is officially happening, bringing new hope to fans who have been waiting years for the crime thriller series to continue. Josh Brolin, who plays FBI agent Matt Graver, has confirmed that the long-awaited third film is actively moving forward and suggested that production will begin “soon.”
The "No Country for Old Men" officially confirmed the update during an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, while out promoting his upcoming Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi film, "The Dog Stars".
The movie is currently in pre-production. Work on the script was delayed by Hollywood strikes, but producers have since developed what they describe as a “fantastic” story idea. The project has also been developed under the working title 'Sicario: Capos'.
While no exact filming date has been announced, Brolin’s comments suggest that cameras could start rolling in the near future.
Brolin is expected to return as Matt Graver, while Benicio del Toro is also strongly expected to reprise his role as Alejandro Gillick. Producers have previously indicated that Alejandro is essential to continuing the franchise. Fans are also hoping to see Emily Blunt return as Kate Macer, the main character from the first "Sicario". However, her involvement has not been officially confirmed.
Taylor Sheridan, who created the original "Sicario" story, remains involved in developing the third film.
However, there is still no director officially attached to the project. Denis Villeneuve, who directed the first film, will not return because of his work on his committed projects. Stefano Sollima, director of "Sicario: Day of the Soldado", is also not returning. The latter is currently working on the second season of "The Monster of Florence". Producers have previously discussed Christopher McQuarrie, known for the last few "Mission: Impossible" films, as a possible replacement, but nothing is official yet.
