Samantha's "Maa Inti Bangaaram" has registered the second-biggest two-day opening weekend for a female solo-led movie in South Indian film history, trailing only Kalyani Priyadarshan's "Lokah Chapter 1". By generating Rs 25.67 crore worldwide in 48 hours, Samantha has narrowly bypassed Anushka Shetty’s all-time Telugu opening records for "Bhaagamathie" (Rs 24.50 crore) and "Rudhramadevi" (Rs 22 crore).
Sacnilk figures show that on Day 2, "Maa Inti Bangaaram" earned Rs 7.65 crore, which is higher than the Rs 5.35 crore it earned on the first Friday (a 43.0% growth), taking the domestic gross to Rs 15.07 crore, while netting Rs 13 crore so far. Overseas, the film collected Rs 10.60 crore so far, adding to the Rs 25.67 crore global overall total.
This milestone marks an exponential personal upgrade for Samantha. Compared to her previous solo action thriller, "Yashoda", "Maa Inti Bangaaram" has more than doubled its two-day opening pace. While "Maa Inti Bangaaram has completely challenged traditional opening-day limits, "Lokah” remains ahead due to its rapid regional expansion. "Lokah" started at Rs 6.66 crore globally on Day 1 but surged remarkably over the weekend to clear roughly Rs 32 crore by Day 2, eventually hitting a record-breaking Rs 65.50 crore 4-day weekend.
Released in both Telugu (original version) and Tamil (as "Engal Thangam"), it's the former currently driving the box-office momentum. Directed by B.V. Nandini Reddy, the story comes from Raj Nidimoru, who also co-produced the film with Samantha's Tralalala Moving Pictures. Raj Nidimoru, Vasanth Maringanti, and Prahas Boppudi co-wrote the screenplay.
