Amidst a lot of people wondering why (and how) Robert Downey Jr. is back in "Avengers: Doomsday" even though it's officially known that he is playing main baddie Doctor Doom, there is also a bit of caution among film buffs who are wondering whether the Russo Brothers, who are back in the MCU stable after a brief hiatus, will pull it off like the last time, with not just Doomsday but also "Avengers: Secret Wars".

Downey Jr, however, is highly optimistic, even promising fans that it will be worth their while. In an interview with CBR, the "Oppenheimer" and "Iron Man" actor said that everyone worked hard to ensure that the next one isn't going to be a letdown, sharing that they engaged in much "experimentation", adding, "We've had our moments of, ‘Let's shift here.’ But we landed in a place that I think will more than suffice. And it's not even about how I executed it. It's about the way it's been structured and the other characters. There's something going on in Doomsday, and forward that is literally the only antidote to, ‘How do you not have these films be let down after an Infinity War and an Endgame?’ And boy, have we laboured long and hard to bring that down.”

Everyone who has been closely following the progression of projects and storytelling in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) knows that things haven't been very hunky dory after "Endgame", until a resurgence of sorts with "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" and "Thunderbolts", which did relatively better in terms of critical appreciation and box office when compared to the previous MCU entries.

Russo has additional promises. "I think ('Doomsday') is the most emotionally complex of all of them. And in a lot of ways, the most mature of all of them," the filmmaker said.

Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Disney, "Avengers: Doomsday" co-stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd and others.
