Television actress Sanchita Ugale has died by suicide at the age of 22. The incident reportedly occurred at her Mumbai home on Sunday evening (June 14, 2026). The "Chhaava" actress was found hanging from a ceiling fan using a saree inside her locked bedroom in her apartment at Achole village, Nalasopara East.
The tragedy is said to have occurred between 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM. Her family members, who broke into the room and found her hanging, rushed her to the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Upon preliminary investigation, the Achole Police haven't recovered any suicide note. The authorities, led by Assistant Police Inspector Vinod Bagh, have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). As per Bagh's statement to the press, her father, Machinda Ugale, filed the initial complaint but added that he neither suspects foul play nor holds anyone responsible for her death.
In his statement quoted by ANI, Bagh said: "A case has been reported in the jurisdiction of Acholi Police Station. Miss Sanchita Ugale, 22, died by suicide by hanging herself in her own home. The reason for the death will be determined in the investigation. Further action will be taken accordingly. Nothing has been found so far. However, her father says he has no complaints against anyone."
Fans and social media followers of Ugale are unable to digest the news since she had posted a seemingly cheerful Instagram video, in which she is lip-syncing to a Hindi song, a day before her death.
An active member in the television space, Ugale is most well-known for the lead role of Sukoon in the Dangal TV teleserial "Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi". Hailing from a lower-middle-class family in Sangamner, Maharashtra, she came from a theatre background before shifting to mainstream media, while also appearing in big-scale movies like Vicky Kaushal-starrer "Chhaava", where she played a 15-year-old Tara Rani (Tarabai). She is also known for her prominent supporting character, Diya, in the television soap "Kumkum Bhagya".
