Is 'Jack Ryan' getting a Season 5? 'Ghost War', starring John Krasinski, could set up new Prime Video series

A direct sequel to the four-season show, "Ghost War" is set approximately three years after the events of the Season 4 finale, which also introduced another integral character

It goes without saying that fans who religiously followed the John Krasinski-fronted "Jack Ryan" series through its four seasons on Prime Video have been eagerly awaiting the follow-up, this time in the form of a feature-length project. Set to also stream on the platform from May 20, "Jack Ryan: Ghost War" will see Krasinski reprising the titular role.

As per the official logline provided by Prime Video, the show follows Jack Ryan as he is "reluctantly thrust back into the world of espionage when an international covert mission unravels a deadly conspiracy, forcing him to confront a rogue black-ops unit, and the clock is ticking. Operating in real time with lives on the line and the threat escalating at every turn, Jack reunites with battle-tested CIA operative Mike November (Michael Kelly) and former CIA boss James Greer (Wendell Pierce), their combined experience the only edge against an enemy who knows their every move. Backed by an unlikely new partner – razor-sharp MI6 officer Emma Marlowe (Sienna Miller) – Jack and the team navigate a treacherous web of betrayal, facing a past they thought was long put to rest – making this the most personal, high-stakes mission any of them has ever faced."

A direct sequel to the four-season show, "Ghost War", is set approximately three years after the events of the series finale. The movie employs a "real-time" narrative style like the one followed by "24", engaging Ryan in a high-stakes, 105-minute mission in one continuous sprint.

Other cast members include Wendell Pierce as CIA Deputy Director James Greer, Michael Kelly as Mike November, Betty Gabriel as CIA Director Elizabeth Wright, and Sienna Miller as new MI6 ally Emma Marlowe.

"Ghost War" is officially the sixth film in the overall Jack Ryan cinematic franchise. While it shares characters with past films, it belongs to the Krasinski timeline rather than the Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, or the Chris Pine movies.

So, can we expect a Season 5 after this? No. That's definitely not going to happen, according to Krasinski himself, who told Collider a while back, "I’m personally extremely proud of it. I think that it’s a bittersweet thing, the end of this show, because at the end of the show we wanted the last season to be exciting and thrilling for the audience, but we also wanted to, for the people who have been with us since Season 1, acknowledge the culmination of these relationships and these characters in a very genuine way that would mean something to them so that they were involved in saying goodbye as well. I think that we pulled that off.

However, we are expected to get a new series with one of the popular supporting characters in the Jack Ryan Universe — Domingo "Ding" Chavez (Michael Peña), introduced in Season 4. This means there would be opportunities for Krasinski to appear again as Jack Ryan, albeit in a smaller capacity.

A similar plan is already underway with another Prime Video hit, "Reacher", with a supporting female character, Frances Neagley, getting her own show titled "Neagley".
