During the much-anticipated presentation of the preview footage of "Avengers: Doomsday" to movie exhibitors at CinemaCon 2026, Walt Disney Studios announced something called 'Infinity Vision', which is bound to cause some confusion among those who aren't familiar with the term when the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday" opens in theatres on December 18, 2026.
It's simple. It's not another 'format' like IMAX or PXL; it merely refers to a new premium theatrical certification launched by Walt Disney Studios to help moviegoers identify high-quality "Premium Large Format" (PLF) theatres that meet Disney's rigorous technical standards for screening their blockbusters — to put it simply, a "seal of approval" for existing auditoriums.
Here's why it was launched. The much-anticipated "Dune 3" is also going to be released on the same day as the MCU entry and will be taking up all the domestic IMAX screens, as per reports. This means the only way to ensure audiences find an optimal viewing experience was to inform them of theatres where "Doomsday" would be screened in the best possible manner.

How do theatres get 'Infinity Vision'?
To receive the certification, a theatre must meet three main criteria.
1) They must project the film on the largest possible screens to provide an immersive field of view.
2) They must project it through high-contrast laser technology that delivers superior brightness and colour accuracy.
3) The screenings must come with immersive, high-channel-count audio formats to rival Dolby Atmos-level standards.
This certification is set to debut with the September 2026 re-release of "Avengers: Endgame" and will be a major feature for the December 2026 release of "Avengers: Doomsday".
How did 'Dune 3' get IMAX priority?
"Dune 3" managed to grab IMAX screens because Warner Bros. reportedly secured the December 18 release date for the sci-fi/fantasy/space epic back in June 2024, nearly a year before Disney moved "Doomsday" to the same slot.
"Dune 3" is said to have locked in an exclusive three-week window for IMAX screens. Besides, unlike "Doomsday", "Dune 3" was shot extensively with IMAX 65mm film cameras, making it a higher technical priority for the format.
Does this mean 'Doomsday' will not get IMAX screens at all?
While "Doomsday" will reportedly still screen in IMAX in select international markets on the opening weekend, domestic (U.S.) audiences will likely have to wait until early 2027 to see it in IMAX, once the "Dune 3" IMAX exclusivity expires.
There are ongoing rumours that Marvel may move the "Doomsday" release up to December 11, 2026, to grab one week of IMAX screens before "Dune 3" arrives, but Disney has not officially made any announcements.
What to expect from 'Avengers: Endgame' re-release?
At CinemaCon 2026, Marvel Studios announced that "Avengers: Endgame" will be re-released in theatres on September 25, 2026, to build hype and bridge the narrative gap leading into "Doomsday".
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed at the event that this version will include brand-new footage, deleted scenes, and "extra surprises" not seen in the original 2019 release.
The added footage is also expected to tease a connection to the events of "Doomsday".
