A week after Guy Ritchie's origin story take on Sherlock Holmes landed on Prime Video, the streamer is gearing up for the premiere of another investigative mystery series based on a famous literary character: Scarpetta.
Named after Dr Kay Scarpetta, the forensic pathologist protagonist of Patricia Cornwell's popular novels featuring the character, the series is fronted by Nicole Kidman. It will premiere worldwide on March 11 on Prime Video. A trailer is available online.
Set across two timelines, the 1990s and present day, the series will tell a story that spans Scarpetta's early days as a chief medical examiner in the 1990s to a murder case in the present day.
"Using her sharp instincts and medical expertise, the determined examiner works to speak for victims, uncover the truth behind a serial killer, and prove that the case that defined her career 28 years ago will not ultimately destroy it. Set within the world of modern forensic science, the story goes beyond crime scenes to examine the psychological struggles faced by both criminals and investigators, building a layered thriller that explores the personal cost of pursuing justice," said the official press release.
The show, which is expected to pay as much attention to Scarpetta's personal relationships as her professional life, will also feature acclaimed actress and Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis ("The Bear", "Halloween") as her sister Dorothy Farinelli. Other lead actors include Bobby Cannavale ("Boardwalk Empire") as Pete Marino, Simon Baker ("The Mentalist") as Benton Wesley, and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) as Lucy Farinelli, among others.
