The makers of Dhanush’s 54th film, titled "Kara", have announced the official release date. The Vignesh Raja directorial will hit theatres on April 30, 2026.
Vignesh Raja made his directorial debut with the 2023 Tamil thriller Por Thozhil, which starred R. Sarathkumar and Ashok Selvan, and earned rave reviews aside from being a commercial success.
"Kara" features a mixed ensemble from Mollywood and Tollywood. Aside from Dhanush, whose character is named Karasaami "Kara", the film also stars Mamitha Baiju, K.S. Ravikumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas, Jayaram, and Pritivi Pandiraj. Ishari K. Ganesh bankrolls the production under his Vels Film International banner.
The film has a script by Alfred Prakash, who also wrote Por Thozhil, with G. V. Prakash Kumar as the composer, and Theni Eswar as the cinematographer. Sreejith Sarang, who edited Por Thozhil, is handling the edits this time around too.
Shooting for "Kara" began one week after Dhanush wrapped up the shoot for his film Tere Ishk Mein, helmed by Aanand L. Rai. It was released in November. Dhanush's last Tamil film was "Idli Kadai" which he also directed. It marked a reunion between Dhanush and Nithya Menen after Thiruchitrambalam, and co-starred Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Sathyaraj, R. Parthiban, P. Samuthirakani and Rajkiran.
