Actor Rajpal Yadav, largely known for his character roles in comedy, surrendered to Tihar jail in February 2026 for a long-standing cheque bounce case. The 54-year-old veteran, who is currently part of two projects like Bhooth Bangla and Welcome to the Jungle, has been reasonably active in the industry, especially in recent years.
Bhool Bhulaiyya 3, Baby John and Chandu Champion are some of the other notable Bollywood films that Yadav recently featured in. Having debuted in 1999, Yadav has been part of the industry for more than two decades but has never been one to hog the limelight. However, the Tihar jail incident isn't the first instance of Yadav being jailed.
In 2013, Yadav was given a ten-day jail sentence after filing a false affidavit but eventually ended up being in jail for just four days. Towards the end of the same year, a division bench of the High Court suspended the sentence but the real trouble arose for Yadav in 2018 when he was under the scanner for non-repayment of a business loan that he had taken in 2010.
Yadav had reportedly taken the loan for funding his directorial debut and had left the repayment incomplete over the years. With increasing interests and other charges, the amount shot up to Rs 9 crore approximately and after seeing no other option, Yadav surrendered on 5th February, 2026 and is serving a six-month jail term.
Yadav is one of the many renowned film personalities to graduate from the National School of Drama. His emotional outburst after surrendering to Tihar jail has gone viral, with many notable celebrities coming forward to aid him financially.
