On January 30, Dhurandhar had its OTT premiere on Netflix and while the theatrical run is officially not over yet, it has effectively stopped earning anything significant from that avenue. Nevertheless, the Ranveer Singh starrer finishes as the highest grosser in Hindi cinema history, both in India and overseas.
In this era of frontloaded releases and OTT-friendly deals, Dhurandhar managed to complete 50 days in theatres and that too in some style. The spy thriller ends with a worldwide gross of approximately Rs 1250 crore, of which Rs 950 crore came from India and the overseas numbers managed to touch Rs 300 crore just about.
It is a phenomenal box office phenomenal by any yardstick. Dhurandhar was produced by Aditya Dhar's B62 Studios in association with Jio Studios. The distribution was handled by Jio Studios alone but obviously, they had to get in touch with local distributors across all territories and sub-territories in India.
How much money did the Dhurandhar producers make from India's theatrical revenue? To begin with, the gross of Rs 950 crore comes straight up from tickets sold and the film had footfalls of approximately 3.65 crore. After deducting the tax, Dhurandhar has a nett figure of close to Rs 780 crore in India.
If we go by the general trends in the market, the distributor share for Dhurandhar would be around Rs 335-340 crore while the producer share would be close to Rs 300 crore. Hence, the remaining figure, which would be around Rs 300 crore is what the theatre owners across India earned as a cumulative figure.
In Dhurandhar's case, the producer and distributor are technically the same entity, and it is a matter of knowing how much the private deals were between Jio Studios and the local distributors across each region in India. While the value of such deals are never explicit, it is safe to say that B62 Studios and Jio Studios have landed on a goldmine in Dhurandhar.
