Popular entrepreneur-film producer and real estate giant Dr CJ Roy passed away on Friday (January 30) after committing suicide. The business tycoon was under investigation from central agencies who had raided his offices over the last few days. Roy's death occurred at one of his offices located in Hosur Road in Ashok Nagar, Bengaluru.

While dominating the real estate space through his entity Confident Group, Roy also established his presence in Kerala's film circuit. A host of films were produced by the banner while Roy was also known to help financiers and producers unofficially to ensure that their projects released smoothly.

Coming to Confident Group's solo production ventures, Mohanlal's Casanovva (2012) and Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea (2021) were arguably the costliest Malayalam films at the time of their respective releases. It's another matter that both films were box office debacles that began with record-breaking openings due to Mohanlal's stardom.

Some of the other films produced by Confident Group were Identity (2025) starring Tovino Thomas and Suresh Gopi's Meim Hoom Moosa (2022). In the latter, Confident Group wasn't the only producer but did a major bulk of the heavy-lifting in ensuring the production of the film. Crazy Loka (2012) and Radhana Ganda (2013) were two Kannada films in which Confident Group were involved

Another Mohanlal-starrer, Ladies and Gentleman (2013), was also produced by Confident Group, although Mohanlal's Aashirwad Cinemas were also involved as co-producers in the project. There have been several such instances of Roy's firm co-producing major projects with Bhavana's upcoming film Anomie being the latest example. Anomie is slated for release on February 6, 2026.
