Sivakarthikeyan's Pongal release Parasakthi is having a nightmarish fourth day at the box office. The political drama directed by Sudha Kongara had a strong opening day and the second day was also decent despite showing a dip in figures. However, from Monday onwards, the film has gone into crash mode and this is with the Pongal festival yet to begin.
On its opening day, Parasakthi collected close to Rs 28 crore worldwide while the second day figures were reported to be around Rs 15 crore. It seemed like that film would breach the Rs 50 crore mark on Sunday but it had to crawl its way there on Monday with figures suffering a massive hit everywhere.
On its fourth day, Parasakthi has gone into complete 'crash mode' and has not even collected Rs 1 crore gross in India with evening and night shows yet to start. Trends suggest a maximum of Rs 2-3 crore gross for the day, which is shambolic to say the least. In Tamil Nadu, Parasakthi will struggle to even reach Rs 2 crore in gross.
Usually, Pongal film tend to show huge jump in collections from January 14 onwards through the Pongal holidays. The pre-Pongal effect was surely there on Monday and Tuesday but even then, the drops should have ideally been much lower for Parasakthi. The fact that it dropped even on a Sunday was a big signal in itself, but the trade continued to be optimistic nevertheless.
All that hope now seems to have vanished as the film is unlikely to cross the Rs 100 crore mark globally, a shocking result when you consider that the opening day alone went over Rs 25 crore. It tells you that the film has been rejected totally and a FLOP status is inevitable for this Sivakarthikeyan starrer.
