In what comes as a major boost for Vijay and the makers of Jana Nayagan, the Supreme Court case hearing of the censor row is likely to be listed on January 15. The development has been reported late on Tuesday (January 13), hours after earlier reports suggested January 19 to be the listed date of hearing.

On Monday (January 12), the producers of Jana Nayagan, KVN Productions, had approached the Supreme Court for a plea against the Madras High Court's ruling on the film's censor certificate row. For the unversed, the Madras High Court had heard the case last week and on January 9, initially ordered the Censor Board to give U/A certificate to the film.

However, in the matter of hours, the Madras High Court was forced to issue a stay order on its earlier ruling due to a complaint filed by the Censor Board, challenging the earlier decision. With January 21 listed as the date of hearing at the Madras High Court, it became evident that Jana Nayagan shall not release until the last week of January, unless brisk action was taken by the producers.

This is why KVN Productions decided to approach the Supreme Court to fast track the case for brisk resolution. The Pongal holidays in Tamil Nadu mean that the Madras High Court cannot function until the festival period ends. However, the Supreme Court has just a solitary holiday (January 14) for the festival of Pongal/Sankranthi.

Latest reports suggest that the Jana Nayagan censor row case will be listed on Thursday (January 15). Further updates are awaited.
