Ranveer Singh's latest release Dhurandhar is now the highest all-time Hindi grosser in India, having overtaken the lifetime collections of Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 on the 33rd day of its theatrical run. With this major milestone, all the important records have been conquered by Dhurandhar except the opening day and opening weekend, which the sequel will aim to hunt down.
However, there is one huge lifetime record that Dhurandhar will not be able to break even with this unprecedented theatrical run. One big metric of a film's success is footfalls - tickets sold by the film during its theatrical run. In today's age of dynamic ticket pricing, collections can often go over the roof when the word-of-mouth is good or great, but footfalls gives us deeper clarity.
Among Hindi films, the footfalls of Baahubali 2 remain the highest at 5.10 crore while Pushpa 2 and Gadar are the only other films that have managed to cross 4 crore footfalls in the modern era. Dhurandhar, for all its exceptional trending, will finish its theatrical run with footfalls around 3.5-3.6 crore.

Most of the major Hindi blockbusters in the last two decades have been in the 3-3.5 crore footfalls list. Jawan (3.1), Pathaan (2.8 crore), Stree 2 (3.2 crore) and Gadar 2 (3.4 crore) are some of the major blockbusters during this phase with Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava just about breached the 3 crore mark.
Regardless of this metric, Dhurandhar is still an all-time blockbuster that has redefined the box office rules in Hindi cinema. It will end with a worldwide gross of Rs 1200-1300 crore and if anything, the sequel has the potential to possibly cross the 4 crore mark in footfalls if the content is as good as the first part.
