On Saturday, the first video glimpse of Marathi filmmaker Kishor Belekar's Gandhi Talks was unveiled, revealing the lead cast members, including Vijay Sethupathi, Aditi Rao Hydari, Arvind Swamy, and Siddarth Jadav, among others.

Directed by Marathi filmmaker Kishor Belekar, the film is reportedly a black comedy. Slated for release on January 30, it will be a completely silent effort, with the narrative guided solely through the music of AR Rahman.

Posting the update on his social media handles, Rahman wrote: "They loved in silence. They sinned in silence. They suffered in silence. This film speaks of that silence. A silent promise. A loud arrival - the year's most intriguing cinematic experience."

In an official statement, Belekar said, "Gandhi Talks is a film about trusting silence. As Indian cinema marks over a century of storytelling, we wanted to return to the medium's most elemental form, pure performance and emotion. The actors embraced that vulnerability completely, and AR Rahman's score became the film's voice."

Backed by Zee Studios, Gandhi Talks is said to examine the conflict between Mahatma Gandhi's ideas and the overwhelming, harsh truths of contemporary society. The narrative revolves around a young man in dire straits and his crisscrossing path with that of a thief.

If the film turns out well, it could end up sitting comfortably alongside the likes of Kamal Haasan's Pushpak, itself a black comedy exploring the episodes in the life of a common man. The other notable example was Karthik Subbaraj's 2018 silent horror thriller Mercury, which told its story through sign language and visual storytelling.
