Director Rob Reiner, aged 78, known for popular films like When Harry Met Sally and The Princess Bride, was found dead along with his 68-year-old wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home on Sunday.

While full details have not yet emerged, the Los Angeles police department said they are investigating it as an apparent homicide.

The TMZ and People both reported that the couple was found with knife wounds.

Police discovered two bodies, a man and a woman, at the Los Angeles mansion on Sunday, December 14, at around 3:30 pm. The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the home to provide medical aid. Police have not yet identified the couple as the Reiners and his wife to the media. A source close to Reiner confirmed to NBC news that the deceased were couple.

Multiple sources told People that the killer was the couple’s son, Nick Reiner.

In a 2016 interview, Nick had spoken about his years-long struggle with drug addiction, which led to him cycling in and out of rehab starting from the age of 15.

His addiction had him living on the streets, and as it escalated, he spent time homeless in multiple states.

He later co-wrote 'Being Charlie', a semi-autobiographical book based on his experiences.

Rob Reiner, a director, producer, and actor, was known for Hollywood hit films like Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men. He was born in the Bronx in 1947, and his father was a comedian, and his mother was an actress and singer.

He made his debut with the mockumentary film This Is Spinal Tap.

He also played Michael 'Meathead' Stivic on the sitcom All in the Family.

Rob met Michele when he worked on When Harry Met Sally. The couple got married in 1989 and have three children together, Jake, Nick and Romy.
