No film since Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal has triggered such intense debates on social media as the latest Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar. While the big-budget action extravaganza, directed by Aditya Dhar, continues to be a trending topic among netizens, a report has emerged that the film's success has led to the team selling the OTT rights for a massive sum.
A report in Bollywood Hungama says, “Netflix has paid Rs. 130 crores for the streaming rights of Dhurandhar. This includes both parts. Hence, one can say that the rights were sold for around Rs. 65 crores each for Dhurandhar Part 1 and Part 2.”
The source quoted by the portal further added that it's the "biggest" OTT deal yet for a Ranveer Singh movie. "This is a huge figure in today’s times when the OTT prices have crashed. Also, it is a significant shot-in-the-arm for Ranveer Singh. This is his biggest OTT deal yet, if we count the amount given to both parts of Dhurandhar.”
Dhurandhar, which also features Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Arjun Rampal in lead roles, have by now grossed ₹ 128.42 Cr, according to trade website Sacnilk.
In its review of the movie, THE WEEK said the "outcome of the big bucks spent is evident on screen. This is a welcome relief when you think about the extremely low standards set by some other big-scale Bollywood movies." It also said the movie, which ends with the promise of a Part 2, "delivers the necessary highs" and that "Aditya (Dhar) has proven himself capable and talented." However, the review also said that despite being well-made, the movie features "unnecessary and cringey jingoism."
