The Indian Army is set to strengthen its ability to strike enemy armoured vehicles and tanks as Nagpur-based Solar Defence & Aerospace Ltd delivered the indigenously developed Nagastra 2 Anti-Tank Loiter Munition System to the force.
The system is designed to carry out precision attacks against armoured targets at distances of up to 50 km. It is equipped with a specialised warhead capable of penetrating armour protection equivalent to 650 mm of Rolled Homogeneous Armour (RHA).
According to the company, the Nagastra 2 combines long-range strike capabilities, day-and-night surveillance and resistance to electronic warfare threats, making it a major addition to the Indian Army's battlefield capabilities.
The system also offers operational flexibility, allowing it to be recovered and reused in certain missions or employed in a fire-and-forget mode for longer-range engagements.
Nagastra 2 will improve the ability of the Indian Army to engage heavily armoured targets using a 4 kg tandem shaped-charge warhead.
According to Solar Defence & Aerospace Ltd, the warhead is designed to penetrate targets protected by up to 650 mm of RHA. This gives the system the potential to engage enemy armoured vehicles and other protected battlefield targets through precision strikes.
Besides, Nagastra 2 can operate at distances of up to 25 km in recover-and-reuse mode and 50 km in fire-and-forget mode, offering the Army greater flexibility in choosing how to deploy the weapon according to mission requirements.
The Nagastra 2 is equipped with surveillance cameras capable of operating during both day and night, allowing the system to observe potential targets under different lighting conditions and supports its precision engagement capabilities.
The loitering munition has an endurance of up to 60 minutes.
The combination of surveillance equipment, endurance and precision-strike capability provides the Army an additional option for locating and engaging armoured threats.
Another important feature of the Nagastra 2 is its Electronic Counter-Countermeasures (ECCM) capability.
According to Solar Defence & Aerospace Ltd, "A key technological feature of Nagastra 2 is its Electronic Counter-Countermeasures (ECCM) capability, designed to enhance its resilience in electronically contested battlefield environments. This capability strengthens its potential to operate in the presence of electronic warfare threats, including communication jamming, GPS jamming and spoofing."
