After Manithan, another Rajinikanth classic — this time a bigger one — is gearing up for re-release. The superstar's daughter and film producer Soundarya Rajnikanth announced that his 1999 blockbuster Padayappa will be released on Dec. 12, 2025 to commemorate the actor's 50-year journey in the industry.
Sharing the announcement, Soundarya wrote on 'X', “For 50 unforgettable years, the one and only #SuperstarRajinikanth has inspired generations with his grace, his humility, and his unmatched magic on screen. Today, as millions celebrate this golden milestone, watch Thalaivar relive the memories behind one of his most iconic creations…the monumental #Padayappa, produced by the Superstar himself,” Soundarya wrote on X.
Ahead of the re-release Rajinikanth will be sharing, in a video, his experiences filming what is now considered a classic among his fans. The conversation is expected to be released on Sunday.
“For the first time ever, the film with a story crafted from his heart returns to the big screen after 25 years. More than a movie… it is an emotion, a legacy. Here’s a glimpse of what awaits you this evening. Get ready for #TheReturnOfPadayappa, roaring back into theatres on 12/12/2025. 50 years of love. 50 years of devotion. 50 years of our Thalaivar. This return is for all of us,” Soundarya added.

Written and directed by K. S. Ravikumar, the revenge drama, which saw Rajinikanth sharing the screen with Sivaji Ganesan, along with Ramya Krishnan, Sowmya Sathyanarayana, Lakshmi, Radha Ravi, Nassar, Abbas, Sithara and Preetha.
Ramya Krishnan played the antagonist, an example of unusual casting for the time, which paid off. The actress played a woman seeking vengeance against the titular character for rejecting her advances decades ago.
A. R. Rahman composed the hit soundtrack.
