'The Girlfriend' OTT release: When and where to stream Rashmika Mandanna's relationship drama?

Directed by Rahul Ravindran and co-starring Dheekshith Shetty, the film explores a woman's emotional journey to overcome a toxic and manipulative relationship

Rashmika Mandanna's Telugu-language relationship drama The Girlfriend has a confirmed streaming date. Netflix has announced that the Rahul Ravindran directorial will begin streaming from December 5.

Featuring Kannada actor Dheekshith Shetty as the boyfriend of Rashmika's character Bhooma, the Telugu-language relationship drama, which released in theatres in the first week of November, depicts a romance gone awry and revolves around a young woman trying to overcome a toxic and manipulative relationship.

Rashmika's performance has been widely praised by some critics, while others criticised the film's pacing and screenplay structure. Despite the largely positive feedback, the film didn't fare well at the box office. It collected a worldwide gross of close to Rs. 29 crores.

Written by Rahul Ravindran, The Girlfriend’s principal cast also features Anu Emmanuel and Rohini in integral roles, with Rahul Ravindran (as Prof. Sudheer) and Rao Ramesh playing other significant characters.

The film’s technical crew comprises cinematographer Krishnan Vasant and editor Chota K. Prasad.

Produced by Vidya Koppineedi and Dheeraj Mogilineni, the film has songs by Hesham Abdul Wahab and a background score by Prashanth R. Vihari.

Rashmika called The Girlfriend a very personal film in a recent Instagram post. She wrote: "The Girlfriend — Ahhh! Where do I even begin? When Rahul first narrated this script to me, I remember tearing up. There were so many moments that pinched my heart in ways I couldn’t explain. I kept thinking... ‘Wait, I know this feeling... I’ve felt this before. I don’t know how we don’t see these things when it’s all happening... And what moved me even more was that these words, these emotions, were coming from a man. Things that most people wouldn’t even understand... he did..."
