Celebrated Tamil filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj and acclaimed producer Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment are joining hands for his new directorial, which was launched in Chennai on Monday.
Sikhya Entertainment, run by Monga and Achin Jain, has backed critically acclaimed productions such as Masaan, The Lunchbox, and Kathal (Sanya Malhotra-fronted National Award winner).
Karthik is known in South Indian cinema for directing unconventional crowd-pleasers such as Jigarthanda, its sequel Jigarthanda Double X, Petta, Mahaan, and Retro, among others.
In an official statement to Variety, Monga said, "At Sikhya, we’ve always believed in nurturing original voices and telling homegrown bold stories that travel across cultures. Partnering with Karthik feels like a natural extension of that mission. Karthik’s cinema is rooted, inventive, and wildly original, yet universal in emotion. He bridges mass appeal and auteur vision with such ease, and I’m excited to be on this journey with Karthik.”
Expressing elation at the collaboration, Karthik added, “I’ve always admired the kind of cinema Sikhya stands for; it truly aligns with the artistic vision I crave to always execute. Collaborating with Guneet and Achin, who have built a legacy of meaningful and award-winning films, is truly special, and I’m excited that we are going in this together. This story we’re creating is something very close to my heart, and I’m glad to have found the right producers for the same.”
Notably, Guneet Monga has produced some noted Anurag Kashyap directorials, such as Gangs of Wasseypur and That Girl In Yellow Boots. She recently co-produced the A-rated action thriller Kill, starring Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, and Tanya Maniktala, and directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat.
