After a low opening weekend, The Taj Story continues to hold well at the domestic box office, albeit at low levels. With an opening figure of Rs 1 crore nett, it seemed like game over for the film on the releases day itself but the Paresh Rawal starrer fought back across the weekend. However, it needed a bigger start with a reported budget of Rs 25 crore.

The Taj Story more than doubled its collections on Saturday, netting Rs 2.25 crore while Sunday's numbers managed to breach the Rs 3 crore mark at the India box office. The weekday collections have also stayed above Rs 1 crore, showcasing a solid hold at the box office, especially in multiplexes.

Such films that are allegedly made with a propaganda mindset has seen bigger trends in the last few years but The Taj Story doesn't boast of any marketable stars in the cast. It also didn't have an appealing trailer with a majority of the public disowning the film after the promos itself.

By that yardstick, The Taj Story has done decent business and early estimates on its seventh day indicate another solid day at the box office with a bare minimum of Rs 1 crore expected. That will take the first week collections to roughly Rs 11 crore nett. However, there is a major release this week in Haq featuring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam Dhar.

Haq is also a low-profile film made for a niche audience but has a far more saleable cas and should get a significantly higher screen count than The Taj Story did last week. Also, the latter will be affected heavily in its second weekend but should still manage to go past the Rs 15 crore mark lifetime with an outside chance of Rs 20 crore nett.

The film might end up breakeven for the producers by adding the non-theatrical avenues like satellite and OTT deals. However, the film is set to be a FLOP theatrically.
