The 2025 edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival kicked-off in Kolkata on Thursday (November 6). Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the chief guest of the inaugural function that also had a galaxy of film stars across different languages, primarily Bengali cinema.
Sujoy Ghosh, originally Bengali but active in Bollywood, was one of the chief guests outside Bengali cinema. As was veteran Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha who has been attending the KIFF for the last five years. Not many know that noted Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee has a very close bond with Ghosh since their younger days. Fittingly, it was Prosenjit who felicitated his long-time friend.
Ghosh was one of the many celebrities to be felicitated at the inaugural function on the opening day of KIFF 2025 and it was difficult for questions around Kahaani to not be floated at him. Popular actor Parambrata Chatterjee, who played a key role in the first installment and also hosted the function, took the cue to shoot the question at his director.
Parambarata's question was regarding Kahaani 3 and whether the project is on. Ghosh, true to his nature, didn't say anything but just nodded his head to make a non-verbal confirmation about it. This is great news for film buffs, given the iconic nature of the Kahaani franchise that starred Vidya Balan.
Kahaani (2012) was a huge blockbuster at the box office. Ghosh and Balan were both heaped with praises for their outstanding contributions to the film. Kahaani 2, which released four years later, couldn't match up to its predecessor in terms of impact but was still a very neat film. The fans hope that the third part will be closer in quality to Kahaani.
KIFF 2025, which kicked off today (November 6) will be held till November 13 with over 200 films to be screened during this period.
