Dies Irae, Pranav Mohanlal's latest release, has taken a thundering start at the ticket windows. The horror thriller has received largely positive reviews from critics and the common public, and that is translating into mayhem at the box office globally. Dies Irae has collected a whopping Rs 25 crore gross worldwide in its opening two days.
For the record, Bramayugam starring Mammootty was director Rahul Sadasivan's biggest hit with Rs 30 crore globally and that figure will decimated inside the third day of release by Dies Irae. This response is phenomenal, especially when you consider that is an A-rated film. It already became the first A-rated film to touch double-digit globally on its opening day and has repeated the same on Day 2 as well.
Early estimates suggest another mammoth day for Dies Irae as it is flirting with the Rs 13-15 crore gross range worldwide. Numbers could go even higher as there is insane demand for extra shows and screens in Kerala. More than 200 late night shows were charted on Saturday (November 1) and the same is expected for Sunday as well.
The three-day global gross would be around Rs 40 crore, and it has a bigger opening in Kerala and worldwide than Mollywood's current record-holder Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. The Kalyani Priyadarshan-Naslen starrer collected Rs 10.65 crore during its opening three days in Kerala and Dies Irae is expected to go past Rs 15 crore in its opening weekend.
If Dies Irae can sustain this momentum in its second weekend, it could easily go past Rs 100 crore worldwide. For now, it is on track and the opening showcases the brand value of Sadasivan who has carved his name in the horror genre. Meanwhile, the stocks also keep increasing for Pranav as he has started positively in his bid to maintain the legacy of his father and reigning superstar Mohanlal.
