In films like "You're Next" and "The Guest", you can see an original stamp, something similar to Rian Johnson's original non-franchise work, like "Brick" and "Knives Out" (before it became a trilogy).


The first trailer of "Onslaught" bore a strong "Terminator" coding, considering how it involves a rogue squad of genetically engineered soldiers wreaking havoc after escaping from a secret military facility.

The science fiction action-horror film, written by Wingard's frequent collaborator, Simon Barrett, is indeed a nod to the 1980s thrillers, admitted Wingard at the San Diego Comic Con 2026. Not only that, Wingard admitted that it's set in the same universe as "You're Next" and "The Guest", calling it the third part of a "trilogy".

Adria Arjona ("Hit Man", "Blink Twice") leads the film as a mother and former Army sniper living in a desert trailer park who is forced to 'reactivate' her skills to protect her daughter when the aforementioned threat emerges. Wingard has described the film as a reimagining of the slasher sub-genre through the lens of a military-industrial complex conspiracy.

Dan Stevens, who worked in "The Guest", plays an eccentric, prosthetic-wearing mad scientist. Rebecca Hall plays his "dominatrix handler" overseeing the genetic program. Alex Pereira, the UFC Champion, makes his acting debut as a formidable villain named "The Butcher". Drew Starkey plays a sex-positive terrorist employed by the government. Additional cast members include Michael Biehn, Reginald VelJohnson, and Eric Wareheim.


Backed by A24, the movie is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on September 4, 2026. Wingard has confirmed that it will be released in the IMAX format as well, with the unveiling of a special poster announcing the same. The new trailer will drop soon.
