The records keep tumbling for Kantara: Chapter 1 which has taken a phenomenal opening at the box office across all Indian territories. The overseas business is also impressive thus far but it is in India that the film is running riots. In Kerala, the Rishab Shetty-starrer has grossed Rs 23 crore approximately in its extended four-day weekend.
Two of the four days saw Kantara: Chapter 1 grossing breaching the Rs 6 crore mark - an outstanding milestone for non-Malayalam actors in the state. Historically, it's been the Tamil stars who had managed heavy openings among other language films in Kerala with Vijay topping the list. In fact, his films have even set all-time record openings, be it first day collections or weekend collections.

However, it wasn't a Vijay film which set the record for multiple Rs 6 crore-grossing days in Kerala. Yash's KGF 2, which released in 2022, had the privilege of unlocking this milestone in the state. It was also the first Kannada film to emerge victorious in Kerala. Shetty's Kantara, which released later that year, also did blockbuster business in the state but that was due to extremely low value of rights.

In 2023, two more films joined this elite club, expectedly from Kollywood. Rajinikanth's Jailer and Vijay's Leo were the two films that got an entry into this milestone club. Surprisingly, no other language films in 2024 and 2025 had clicked with the Kerala audience to enter this club until Kantara: Chapter 1's arrival on October 2, 2025.
