Sivakarthikeyan's 'Parasakthi' and Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' to clash on Pongal?

The Pongal 2025 festival is set for an epic cinematic showdown as two of Tamil cinema's biggest stars are slated to release their much-anticipated films. Both films promise high-octane drama and significant political undertones, setting the stage for an unprecedented Pongal box office battle

Tamil filmmaker Sudha Kongara's much-anticipated Sivakarthikeyan starrer Parasakthi will be placed in the same release window as Vijay's Jana Nayagan. The former is slated for Jan. 14 date, the latter on Jan. 9. Suriya's Karuppu was initially expected to be part of the festivities, however, the makers decided to bring it out on another date.

Parasakthi has a stellar ensemble cast featuring Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela, among others. The film marks Sreeleela's Tamil debut. From the recently released two-minute-long footage which begins with 'Once upon a time in Madras', it's evident that the film is of a strongly political nature. The glimpse revealed campus politics, student gangs, and the intriguing scene of Ravi Mohan using the picture of Sivakarthikeyan for target practice, followed by the introduction of the leading man himself, who shows up in front of a large crowd and tells them, 'We need an army... a great army..."

Scripted jointly by Sudha Kongara and Arjun Nadesan and bankrolled by Dawn Pictures, Parasakthi has veteran Ravi K Chandran as director of photography and Sathish Surya (Soorarai Pottru) on the editing table, with GV Prakash Kumar working on the music.

Meanwhile, Jana Nayagan, marks the end of Vijay’s cinema journey, as he has taken an active plunge in politics. It apparently is the first Tamil film bankrolled by a Karnataka-based production house, KVN Productions. The film, which will be released just ahead of the assembly general elections in Tamil Nadu, is expected to be a major political propaganda tool for Vijay and his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.

Helmed by H Vinoth, one of the popular directors in Tamil Nadu, Jana Nayagan is produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Nisha Venkat Konanki under the KVN banner. The co-producers include Jagadish Palanisamy and Lohith NK. Jagadish is one of the close associates of actor Vijay. With Pooja Hegde playing opposite Vijay in the lead, the makers wrapped  up the shooting for the project on June 2.

Sivakarthikeyan's latest release Madharaasi is currently running in theatres. The film marked the actor's first collaboration with director AR Murugadoss. Vijay was last seen in Venkat Prabhu's GOAT (The Greatest of All Time).
