A while back, director James Gunn and actors David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult confirmed their return for the much-anticipated sequel titled 'Superman: Man of Tomorrow' by sharing comicbook artwork of Superman with Lex Luthor beside him, in his Warsuit, while announcing a July 9, 2027 release date.
While this led to speculation that Luthor will return as the principal antagonist in Man of Tomorrow, by putting on the powerful suit to battle Clark Kent's alter-ego, Gunn clarified that the sequel will instead both coming together to take on a bigger antagonist.
In an interaction with radio host Howard Stern, James Gunn said: “It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. It’s more complicated than that but that’s a big part of it. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I Just love the script so much.”
Aside from 'Man of Tomorrow', Gunn recently announced that the next project in the DCU will be 'Supergirl', starring Milly Alcock, who made an appearance in the David Corenswet-fronted movie as Kara Zol-El, Clark Kent's cousin, whose dog Krypto was briefly under his care when she was away.
'Supergirl' will be followed by 'Clayface' directed by James Watkins, from a script by Mike Flanagan ("Midnight Mass", "Doctor Sleep") and Hossein Amini. The principal cast members are Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie.
'Superman' recently hit digital platforms prior to the launch of the second season of James Gunn's 'Peacemaker' starring John Cena.
