Actress Karisma Kapoor, whose children have filed a complaint with the High Court seeking their share in their father Sanjay Kapoor’s ₹30,000-crore estate, had planned to forfeit Indian citizenship for  Portugal. The records submitted by the actress’s legal team included documents and chat details with Sanjay Kapur, which revealed that the family were actively planning to secure foreign nationality for the family.

Karisma and Sanjay, who share children Samaira and Kiaan, maintained a close relationship even after their divorce, the documents accessed by News 18 revealed. It also revealed how Kapur was actively involved in getting Portuguese citizenship for the family. One of the chats revealed Sanjay urging Karishma to give up her Indian citizenship to obtain a Portuguese passport, as India does not permit dual citizenship.

The plea filed by Karisma argues that Sanjay Kapur’s wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, forged the will, and they had no access to the Rs 1,900 crore that was said to have been given to the children. Priya’s counsel Rajiv Nayar agued that the suit filed by Karisma was not maintainable as the plaintiffs are already beneficiaries under the trust and had received assets worth ₹1,900 crore. "There were litigations after litigation, it ultimately culminated in a bitter divorce process which ended in SC. Please have some sympathy for the soul of the deceased. I (Priya) have a 6-year-old child. I am a widow. I am his last wife. You (Karisma) were nowhere to be seen for the last 15 years. It's not as if these people are left on the streets," the counsel said.

However, Karisma’s legal team argued that the control of these assets remains with Priya Sachdev, and they have no access to them.
