For the first time in the history of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists), a woman has become the president of the association, as Shwetha Menon has beaten Devan in the general body elections held on August 15 in Kochi.

Kukku Parameswaran has been elected as the general secretary of AMMA, while Unni Sivapal is the new treasurer of the association.

Jayan Cherthala, Nasser Latif and Lakshmipriya were contesting for the vice president’s post, while Anoop Chandran and Unni Shivapal were in the fray for the post of treasurer.

The voting took place at Kochi Marriott Hotel from 10 am to 1 pm on Friday.

According to media reports, several prominent actors, including Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi, cast their votes. Malayala Manorama reported that popular actor Mammootty did not vote as he is in Chennai.

With the frontline stars, including former president Mohanlal, staying away from elections, there was flurry of activity in the recent days, after several persons filed nominations for all the posts.
