Director Om Raut’s Cannes debut can only mean one thing—a cinematic announcement! Raut has grabbed sparked curiosity with his well-timed revelation about his upcoming biopic this Wednesday night. His news brings silver lining to Dhanush fans as the four-time national award-winning actor is set to star in it.
The biopic, titled Kalam: The Missile Man of India is based on the life of the former president of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, tracing his journey from Rameswaram to the apex of the nation. Bankrolled by Abhishek Agarwal and Bhushan Kumar, the movie throws light on the various roles donned by Kalam during his lifetime—a teacher, poet, scientist and statesman.
After a massive disappointment in 2023 with Adipurush, the 43-year-old director is back on the field. Adipurush, which is one of India’s most expensive films, reportedly made on a budget of Rs 500 crore, was heavily criticised for its subpar visual effects, mediocre dialogues and improper casting. “In an era starved of true statesmen, Kalam stood above politics and pettiness,” said Raut. “To bring his story to the screen is both an artistic challenge and a cultural responsibility.”
Dhanush took to Instagram, resharing the poster and commenting, “I feel truly blessed and deeply humbled to be portraying the life of such an inspirational and magnanimous leader – our very own Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam sir”. Producer Agarwal mentioned how excited he is in order to bring the epic life of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to the big screen, calling it an “emotional moment”. Producer Bhushan Kumar further added that it was an honour to be part of a film that celebrates the journey of an extraordinary Indian.
The team remains reticent about any further details, keeping fans worldwide on tenterhooks.
