Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros have dropped the first teaser of the third installment in the 'Godzilla x Kong' franchise. Titled as 'Godzilla x Kong: Supernova', the movie is still in production, and is set to release on March 26, 2027. Fans are buzzing with guesses regarding the plot of the movie across social media.
The new teaser offers glimpses of a busy call centre of Monarch (an organisation that tracks titans), where a computer screen flashes with data and displays a hotline number: (240) MONARCH, a real number that fans can call! The recorded message thanks the callers for reporting Titan activity, saying: “Your help reporting Titan sightings plays a critical role in keeping our world safe”.
As per Deadline, the movie will be directed by Grant Sputore ('We Bury the Dead', 'I Am Mother'), and is said to have several new human characters alongside Titans Godzilla and Kong, as the world faces an apocalyptic threat. Dan Stevens will return as Trapper Beasley, the titan veterinarian first seen in 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire'.
The new cast includes Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’ Connell, Delroy Lindo, Mathew Modine, Alycia Debnam Carey and Sam Neill. The movie is scripted by Dave Callaham ('Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings') and Michael Lloyd Green.
'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire' ended with Godzilla, Kong and Mothra going their separate ways after overcoming Skar King. It’s still unclear if Mothra will appear in 'Supernova', intensifying suspense around the new movie.
The new sequel is the sixth movie in the critically acclaimed Monsterverse franchise, which includes 'Godzilla' (2014), 'Kong: Skull Island' (2017), 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' (2019), 'Godzilla vs Kong' (2021) and 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire'. The last movie is the highest-grossing instalment in the franchise.
