Rahul Sadasivan, who directed Mammootty in the groundbreaking horror thriller Bramayugam, is teaming up with Pranav Mohanlal for his next project, also backed by Night Shift Studios and Y Not Studios, the two companies that bankrolled Bramayugam.
Sadasivan, who also fetched positive critical notice with the Shane Nigam-Revathi horror thriller Bhoothakaalam, is reuniting once again with cinematographer Shehnad Jalal, who shot both films and, recently, filmmaker Christo Tomy's Ullozhokku, starring Parvathy Thiruvothu and Urvashi.
Not much is known about Sadasivan's as-yet-untitled project aside from the fact that it's going to be in the horror genre. The team announced commencement of production on Monday, March 24, 2025.
The project marks Night Shift Studios' second after Bramayugam.
Aside from Shehnad, Sadasivan is also reteaming with Bramayugam art director Jothish Shankar, editor Shafique Mohamed Ali, and sound designer Jayadevan Chakkadath.
A filmmaker who has revealed his penchant for stories in the sci-fi and horror genre, Sadasivan made his debut in 2013 with Red Rain.
However, it was Bhoothakaalam, released nine years later, that put him on cinephiles' radar. The minimalist thriller, released during the pandemic on SonyLIV, was lauded for his exceptional direction as well as the performances of Shane Nigam and Revathi.
Bramayugam, released two years later, was noted for its use of monochrome imagery throughout the film, chilling performance from Mammootty, and mind-bending storyline with thought-provoking themes.
Recently, a viral Instagram video showed a professor at a film institute in U.K. using Bramayugam as part of its curriculum to teach its superior technical aspects.
#Bramayugam is now part of the curriculum at a prestigious London film school, at least for the time being.
