Along with sharing a theatrical release date with Ponman, M. Mohanan directorial Oru Jaathi Jathakam will also share an OTT release date with the Basil Joseph-starrer. The comedy flick will be available to view not one, but two streaming platforms – ManoramaMAX and Amazon Prime Video – starting March 14, providing a great opportunity for those who missed out on its theatrical release.
Oru Jaathi Jathakam follows Jayesh, a man well into his late thirties, searching for a girl in her twenties to tie the knot with. Too ambitious with his demands, his options are running dry – no matrimony site can save him now. During a palm reading, Jayesh discovers that a round of bad luck is headed his way, complicating his search for the “perfect woman”. Things further spiral when a horoscope reveals he is destined for a gay marriage. The film stars Vineeth Sreenivasan, Nikhila Vimal, Babu Antony, P.P. Kunhikrishnan, and Mridul Nair.
The film, while being a comedy, also focuses on underlying issues of misogyny and high expectations that men often place on women when choosing a future partner.
This is not Mohanan’s first stint with Vineeth and Nikhila. The trio had earlier collaborated on Mohanan’s 2018 comedy-drama movie Aravindante Athidhikal. The director has also collaborated with Vineeth’s father, veteran actor Sreenivasan, on numerous occasions, in films like Katha Parayumpol (2007), My God (2015), and also had a role in Aravindante Athidhikal.
Bankrolled by Varnachithra Big Screen, the film managed to double its budget in the box office, grossing over Rs 9 crore against a budget of Rs 4.55 crore.
