An intro of the upcoming Kollywood movie, Indian 2, released on Friday on the social media page of superstar Rajinikanth, showed the comeback of Senapathy, the vigilante who fights corruption. It begins with Kamal Haasan as Senapathy announcing that he is back and goes on to show the circumstances that forced him to be back—rampant corruption.

Indian, released in 1996, ended with Senapathy saying he was alive and would come back whenever injustice prevails. The sequel too addresses the issue of corruption, like the first movie. Indian 2 features Senapathy’s trademark fight technique of using two fingers to bring down the opponent. The film also appears to make references to the recent political developments, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for lighting a lamp and banging of pots and pans during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Red Giant movies and directed by S. Shankar, Indian 2 features an ensemble cast, including Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, S. J. Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, Nedumudi Venu, Vivek, Kalidas Jayaram, Gulshan Grover, Samuthirakani, and Bobby Simha. Anirudh Ravichander has scored the background music.

Indian 2 is expected to be yet another super hit for Haasan after the success of Vikram, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. After Indian 2, Haasan will be seen in Mani Ratnam’s yet-to-be-titled KH 234.
