India put up a spectacular show at the Oscars this year as RRR and Elephant Whisperers brought home two awards. With expectations set so high, the race for India's official entry for Oscars 2024 has begun, according to reports.
A handful of Bollywood films are among key contenders according to a report by Hindustan Times. The list includes films like Zwigato, The Kerala Story and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani.
According to the Hindustan Times report, some of the films, which have been sent to the Film Federation of India for Oscar selection, include names such as Anant Mahadevan’s The Storyteller, Music School, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, 12th Fail, Ghoomer, Tamil film Viduthalai Part 1 and Telugu film Dasara.
Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 is also expected to join the race.
The films are being screened in Chennai and a decision is expected by end of September. The 17-member jury is headed by filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli.
Gujarati film Chhello Show (Last Film Show) was India's official entry to the Oscars last year. The film, directed by Pan Nalin, however failed to make it to the final shortlist in the Best International Feature Film category.
