After multiple delays, Nivin Pauly's 'Thuramukham' to arrive in theatres on Friday

The period drama revolves around the 'chappa' system of the 1940s and 50s

Malayalam film Thuramukham, helmed by Rajeev Ravi, is set to arrive in theatres on Friday after being postponed multiple times.

Starring Nivin Pauly, the film features an ensemble cast of Joju George, Indrajith, Sudev Nair, Arjun Ashokan, Nimisha Sajayan, Poornima Indrajith and Darshana Rajendran.

The period drama revolves around the 'chappa' system widely practiced in the Cochin harbour in the 1940s and 50s. In this system, copper coins would be thrown at the workers waiting for work. The lucky ones who could grab the coins were guaranteed work. The film revolves around the workers' struggles and protests against the inhumane system.Thuramukham is based on K.M. Chidambaram's popular play by the same name.

Cinematographer-director Rajeev's works include critically-acclaimed films like Annayum Rasoolum, Kammattipaadam and Njan Steve Lopez. Thuramukham which focuses on the early history of the Kochi Port, and was shot in multiple locations including Kannur in Kerala. 

The team had earlier cited financial difficulties and legal challenges as reasons for the delay in release.
